Ezra Thomas Rasmussen
EZRA Foundation is named for our late brother, Ezra Thomas Rasmussen.
Ezra passed away in 2008, just over a month before his 17th birthday. During his short life, he dazzled. He was uncommonly kindhearted, exuberant, and original. He climbed trees that were too tall and too spindly. He shouted “I love you” across quiet streets to his buttoned-up family. He grew mushrooms in his closet. He was sensitive and gentle and mischievous. He called out to gulls (and our mom swears they called back). He adored li'l kit'ens and his siblings are incredibly grateful to have Gigi still, his beloved demonic (feral) cat. Our activities are heavily inspired by the work he completed in his painfully short, but beautiful life. His school, Environmental Studies Academy (now New Leaf Collaborative), and the students and teachers involved, were dear to him. He worked closely with his friends, teacher, and the city to a project to rebuild a greener parking and it can still be found in Martinez, CA. EZRA Foundation charitable fund is an evolving effort headed by two of his sisters, and aims to set aside time, space, and sometimes a little money for endeavors that celebrate nature, animals, and kindness, while putting Ezra’s name on beautiful things we hope he’d be proud of. |
